In January 2020, Washington will be one of 5 states in the nation to offer Paid Family and Medical Leave to employees. This new insurance program will allow eligible individuals to take partially paid leave for up to 12-18 weeks, if they have qualifying circumstances.  Because this is the first leave law in the country that has been built from scratch rather than structured around existing disability benefits, it is paramount that employers understand PFML and know their obligations under the new law.
